Yes, on first listen, you are likely quite disappointed with this record.this is the first TS album I was frustratingly upset with.not because of the change of scenery (country to pop?? not, and Taylor was never country in the first place).but because some tracks resembled other artists at first and the melodies and hooks are subtle and somewhat buried!!This is NOT obvious, simplistic, bubblegum pop, people.although it would not be bad if it was ("Bubblegum Is The Naked Truth", as one book titled it).BUT I can almost say "1989" more than deserves the title "Artpop" over Lady Gaga because Taylor approaches electronic-oriented pop music like an art project blank canvas to get all creative and playground on us.
